It's all caused by malware (malicious software) written to force an advertisement in your face, track your browsing habits or worse steal personal information from your computer. It's a very informative tool for finding those registry entries made by these annoying programs and correcting them. Caution! If you use the HijackThis utility, please follow the directions to post the log created by HijackThis to a spyware forum so an expert can help you determine what needs to be removed. If you remove the wrong registry entry(ies), you can render your computer useless.
